Camerons. Hartlepool, Co. Durham.

   At the Lion Brewery for over 100 years but with origins in the 16^th century it was independently owned until the early 1980’s. After which it went through a turbulent period under non brewing industry owners. Happily stability returned in 1992 when it was bought by Wolverhampton & Dudley. They have invested wisely, built up the tied estate to nearly 200 and introduced lined oversize glasses. However there is speculation once again about its future.

Bitter (3.6%), Strongarm (4.0%).

Proudly independent once again for the last couple of years having been bought from Whitbread who had owned the former Nimmo’s family brewery, founded in 1826, for 35 years. It was also the brewer of Butterknowle real ales for a while following its closure. Despite recent senior management changes and some speculation about its future direction. It does have an expanding real ale portfolio that includes Nimmo’s XXXX wholeheartedly revived after an absence of over 30 years. Castle Eden Ale (4.2%), Nimmo’s XXXX (4.4%)

Beers will be found in a few pubs in Newcastle.
