The North East’s longest surviving micro was founded in Newcastle in 1982 in premises previously occupied by undertakers. Its location beside the former site of a local landmark, a 19th century big lamp, gave rise to the name. In 1996 the brewery moved to a renovated Grade II listed Victorian water pumping station in pleasant surroundings by the river Tyne. Opening a pub in the same building to add to their one other tied house.

Keelman (brewery tap), Grange Road, Newburn, (about 5 miles west of city centre) by Tyne Riverside Country Park.

Wheatsheaf (tied pub), Carlisle Street, Felling. By metro station.

Splendid B&B accommodation is available at the Keelman lodge which is situated in Newburn about 100yds from the brewery and Keelman pub. Phone for details.
