The North East’s longest surviving micro was founded in Newcastle in 1982 in premises previously occupied by undertakers. Its location beside the former site of a local landmark, a 19^th century big lamp, gave rise to the name. In 1996 the brewery moved to a renovated Grade II listed Victorian water pumping station in pleasant surroundings by the river Tyne. Opening a pub in the same building to add to their one other tied house.

Beers Brewed at present

	SUNNYDAZE 3.6% This is a very light coloured beer, well hopped with Czechoslovakian styrian Goldings. Ideal for summer sessions.
	BIG LAMP BITTER 3.9% A characterful hoppy beer with a slightly dry aftertaste. A great session beer.
	DOUBLE 'M' 4.3% Copper red in colour, a fruity mouthfeel, with slight traces of malt and pleasant dry aftertase.
	SUMMERHILL STOUT 4.4% Dark roast malt flavour, with a hint of chocolate.
	Big Lamp Premium 5.2% Reddish in colour with mellow aftertaste.
	PRINCE BISHOP ALE 4.8% A well balanced fruity, light coloured beer. First brewed for the 1987 Durham Beer Festival.
	EMBERS 5.5% (SEASONAL) A wonderful strong bitter beer with chocolate and roast crystal malt. A big hit in our first winter at 'The Keelman'. Brewed between November & April.
	KEELMAN BROWN 5.7% (SEASONAL) First brewed in June 1997 for a Blaydon races celebration. Full-bodied ale with a hint of toffee.
	OLD GENIE 7.4% (OCCASIONAL) This dark and very strong beer has an exceptional body. With just the right balance of sweetness which compliments the rich fruitiness.
	BLACKOUT 11.00% (OCCASIONAL) This heavyweight, weighs in at 11%. Has all the qualities of a matured barley wine. (A must for any beer festival)
